Samsung’s eye scanner will use iris scanning technology, which tends to be rather expensive. It does however have its own benefits, namely that its faster than retina or fingerprint scanners.
We expect Samsung will implement its own technology to find a more cost effective way of building the functionality into the Samsung Galaxy S5.
The patent shows a prototype smartphone with all the necessary iris scanning technology included – a camera, proximity sensor, light emitting, light receiving and a power supply unit.
A proximity sensor will sense when the user gets near the phone whilst the iris sensing unit scans the eye and matches it with the stored data.
Other Samsung Galaxy S5 rumoured specs include a WQHD 2560 x 1440p display and a 14nm 640bit Exynos 6 CPU.
