Apple has announced a new version of its tablet, the iPad Air 2, which it said was the thinnest device of its kind on the market.It is 6.1mm (0.24in) thick, and also gains a Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
It has an anti-reflective coating on the screen for the first time, and the A8X - a faster version of the processor featured in the firm's latest iPhones.However, some analysts have questioned whether the upgrade will be enough to turn around iPad sales.An upgraded version of the firm's smaller tablet - called the iPad Mini 3 - was also announced.Like its bigger sibling, it gets the company's fingerprint recognition component. But it uses the older A7 processor and has a lower-resolution rear camera.
The front-facing FaceTime HD camera also has a new sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and allows 81% more light into the lens. It features improved face detection, burst selfies, HDR video and single-shot HDR selfie mode

Apple iPad Air 2 Specification
The iPad Air 2 does indeed feature the rumoured Apple A8X processor, an upgrade from the A8 chip which debuted in the iPhone 6. This new model uses Apple's second-generation 64-bit architecutre and is said to be 40% faster than the regular A8, with two-and-a-half times the graphical performance from the GPU. Apple has also included the M8 motion co-processor for motion data used by applications.- On storage the options are exactly the same as the iPhone 6 - 32GB is gone, but 16GB, 64GB and 128GB still exist.
- Connectivity wise there's 802.11AC Wi-Fi with MIMO for faster performance, and the mobile data enabled variants pack more LTE bands (20) with speeds of up to 150mbps.
- Apple confirmed the Apple Pay functionality will work online using the Touch ID key but will not be comptaible in-stores, presumably this means no NFC.
